Steps To Access An AT&T U-Verse Router
To access your U-Verse router, you must know how to connect with the network. Also, you must have an idea about how to troubleshoot the errors in case you face any. So, let’s do it one by one.
Connect To The Network
- Find the name and password Wi-Fi network given at the side of your AT&T U-verse router: To access your router’s web interface, you will have to use your computer after connecting it to the router’s network. If you are using a mobile device, you should connect it to the router’s network and open a web browser. Start with determining your Wi-Fi access point name and password.
- To know the Wi-Fi access point name, look at ‘Wi-Fi Network Name’. It is mentioned just next to it and starts either with ‘2WIRE’ or ‘ATT’.
- Also, the password is given just below the Wi-Fi network name. You will find it next to ‘Wi-Fi Password’.
- Connect the computer to your AT&T Wi-Fi network. This process may be different for different operating systems depending on which OS you are using on your computer.
- For Mac OS, click at the Airport (Wi-Fi) symbol in the menu, select the Wi-Fi Network Name. You can find it at the side of your U-Verse router. When asked, enter the Wi-Fi password.
- For Windows, click the Wi-Fi icon given at the bottom right side of your computer screen and select the name of your Wi-Fi network from the list. When asked, enter the Wi-Fi password.
- If you are not able to connect your computer to Wi-Fi, you should use an Ethernet cable and insert its first end in the networking port of your computer and the other end in the LAN port provided on your router. The computer will, most probably, then connect to the network automatically.
- Open a browser on your computer: You can open any web browser such as Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
- In the address bar, type http://192.168.1.254 and press the Enter key: When you will do this, it will load the web interface of your browser. Depending on the router model, there may appear a password screen or it may bring you to a page showing a number of settings.
Note: In case the configuration page is not loading, don’t worry. We have mentioned the troubleshooting tips below. Keep reading.
- If asked, enter the system password: Most of the U-verse routers don’t come with a standard password for the router. If your model shows a page which asks for the system password, you should look on the router’s side and search for the term ‘System Password’ (it is different from the Wi-Fi password given at the router) and enter that.
- If you are being asked to enter the system password but ‘system password’ is not printed there on your router, you should leave the field blank and try to proceed.
- If it doesn’t work, contact AT&T support or reset the router settings back to the original factory settings. You can also call 1-833-201-7904 and get instant help.
- Browse through the router’s web interface: Once you reach the web interface of your router, you can easily access your router. The settings screens layout varies according the model of your U-verse router.
How To Troubleshoot Errors?
In case, you are not able to connect to your router over Wi-Fi, you can try the following troubleshooting methods and fix the issue:
- Disconnect the power cable from your router and keep it unplugged for the next thirty seconds: In case, you are not able to connect with your U-verse router web interface using Wi-Fi or Ethernet, you may need to restart your device. After waiting for thirty seconds, you should connect the router again to the power outlet and wait for it to start up and try to connect again.
- Find the IP address for your router: If you are not able to pull up your router’s web interface with the help of the default address i.e. http://192.168.1.254 even after trying, the default address might have been changed inadvertently. To find the new address, follow these steps:
- For Windows, you should press Win+R keys together, type cmd and then press the Enter key. Type ipconfig and again press Enter. Use the address shown next to Default Gateway to connect to your router.
- If you are using Mac, click at the Apple menu, open ‘System Preferences’, select ‘Network’ and then select the network connection that is active. The ‘Router’ address entry will indicate your router’s address.
- Press ‘Reset’ button on the router and hold it for 15 seconds in order to restore it back to factory settings: If the login credentials are not working or your connection times out again and again, resetting your router may help you fix the problem. You can use a paperclip to press the ‘Reset’ button as it is very small.
- Resetting your router will erase all the configuration changes made by you.
- The name and password for your wireless network will be restored to the one mentioned on the router’s label.
- Contact AT&T support for further help in case you still cannot access the router, as there may be some hardware issue. Simply call 1-833-201-7904 for technical support and additional troubleshooting tips.
