Step-by-Step Guide To Set Up PIXMA MG3540 Wireless Connection

Below are the instructions for setting up wireless connection on PIXMA MG3540 printer and also for resetting it to factory settings.

Some access points (sometimes called as hubs or routers) have a button for automatic connection labelled as “WPS” that stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

This allows authorized devices such as PIXMA MG3540 to connect to the network without asking for a password and it also enables an easy and quick method of connecting the devices.

This is the easiest method of connecting the PIXMA MG3540. If the access point features a WPS button, refer the ‘Connect through WPS’ section below for connecting the printer using this method.

If the router or hub does not support WPS, alternative instructions are also provided for connecting the PIXMA MG3540. Refer the ‘Connect through Cableless setup’ section below.

Connect through WPS

Few conditions must be met for using the WPS method:

  • There must be a physical WPS button present at the access point.
  • Refer tothe device’s user guide for more details.
  • If the WPS button is not present, refer the instructions under ‘Connect through Cableless setup’  section.
  • Security protocol for the network must be WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or WPA2. Most access points with WPS enabled use this protocol.

Step 1

Switch on the printer. Press the Wi-Fi button and release only it after the alarm light blinks.

Step 2

When the Wi-Fi button light flashes blue, press the WPS button on the access point within 2 minutes. Refer the access point user guide for starting WPS on the access point.

The blue light next to the Wi-Fi button will keep flashing. This indicates that the printer is searching for a network. The Wi-Fi and power lights will flash once the printer starts connecting to the access point.

The Wi-Fi and power lights will stop flashing and stay lit once the connection between the printer and the wireless network gets established successfully.

Confirming through network settings

A print out of the printer’s network settings can be taken out in order to confirm that the connection between the printer and the wireless network has been established successfully.

  • Switch on the printer.
  • Load an A4 or letter-sized plain sheet.
  • Press the Resume/Cancel button and release it only after the alarm light flashes 15 times.

This will print the network information page. Refer the printout and check the name of the connection under the ‘SSID’ (Service Set Identifier) field while the ‘Connection’ field should indicate ‘Active’.
